What this makes, what it costs, and what to do with the folder you end up with.
A folder. Inside it: an index.html, a _app/ folder holding the 3D engine, a content.json describing your portfolio, and an assets/folder with your models, images and video. That is a complete website. Put it on any web host and it works — no build step, no server, no database, no account with us.
It also carries a README.md and a CLAUDE.md with deploy instructions, so a coding assistant can publish it for you if you would rather not do it by hand.
The site you download has no editor in it. That is on purpose, for three reasons: it keeps the download small, it means the site you publish has no admin panel for anyone to find and poke at, and editing is the service being paid for.
To change something later, come back, open your saved portfolio (or your save file), edit, and download again.
There are two numbers worth watching, and they are not the same one.
How much we keep for you between edits — 32 MB on the free plan, 512 MB on Pro. Only optimized files count: the compressed versions produced when you add something. A 65 MB model that optimizes down to 400 KB costs you 400 KB.
How much a visitor downloads before your room appears. This is the number that decides whether people wait or leave, and it is usually much smaller than the whole portfolio, because images and video are fetched only when someone opens the project they belong to. What loads up front is the engine, the room, the lighting, and your project models.
A packed reference portfolio — 25 projects, 33 MB in total — loads 9.3 MB before the room appears, which is about 9 seconds on a middling mobile connection. Of that, 8 MB is 3D models.
So: fill your storage with video and photographs and your site still opens quickly. Fill it with 3D models and every visitor waits for all of them. The builder warns you when your models pass about 12 MB.
Models are converted and compressed in your browser — nothing is uploaded to be processed. Meshes are simplified and re-encoded, textures are resized and re-compressed to WebP, and the result is usually a small fraction of the original with no visible difference at the sizes these are seen at.
Keep your originals. Only the optimized file is stored, and it is not something you can meaningfully edit later in Blender. We are not a backup service for your source art.
Very large files — over about 150 MB — need more memory to convert than a browser reliably has, especially on a phone. If one is refused, converting it on a desktop first is the fix.
Without an account, you can export a .xrfolio save file: your portfolio and all its optimized assets in one archive, kept by you. Drop it back into the builder any time to carry on. Nothing about it is stored here.
With a free account we keep it for you instead, so there is no file to lose.
Full instructions ship inside the download, and are also here: deploying your portfolio. The short version is that any static host works, and several of them are free.
You can choose to share a model you have made so other people can use it. It is off by default, it is per-model, and it asks you to confirm the model is actually yours to share. You can withdraw it at any time.
If something in the catalogue is yours and should not be there, flag it — you do not need an account to do that, and anything contested comes down while it is looked at.
